A theoretical framework is essential for safe and competent practice as a health care assistant. Students in this course begin to develop a theoretical framework for practice. The philosophical values and theoretical understandings that provide a foundation for safe and competent practice are introduced with a focus on the concepts of caring and person-centred care, basic human needs and human development, family, culture, and diversity as these relate to health and healing. Students will also be introduced to a problem-solving model critical to their practice. Corequisites: HCAS 1100, 1101, 1110, 1130, 1140, and 1220.
Registration in this course is restricted to students admitted to the Certificate in Health Care Assistant.
