Korea has become an economic powerhouse and cultural superpower with K-pop, film, and drama dominating international markets. In this course, students study long term Korean history, starting from the early formation of Korean polities and civilization to modern times in early 20th century. The survey is interdisciplinary: students investigate the interconnections between institutions, society, economy, and culture, including religions, philosophy, and arts. Students examine Korean history in larger East Asian and global contexts, including Korea's historical and cultural relations with China and Japan.
