**Discontinued** was last offered Summer 2008Discontinued Last Updated: 14-DEC-2007 This course explores different research methods and their methodologies in relation to Aboriginal communities. The students will explore research within both traditional and western knowledge systems. Qualitative and quantitative research methods will be compared and contrasted and basic techniques of literature review, interview, survey, questionnaire and observation will be discussed. Elementary statistical operations will be reviewed including graphs, frequency distributions, averages, variability and normal distribution. The students will examine learning styles, logic and arguments, the scientific method, ethics and moral reasoning. The course will be taught from an Aboriginal perspective that is respectful of culture yet attentive to the academic rigour of research. This course will be of interest to anyone intending to further a degree in the Social Sciences.
