NURS 3367: Nursing Knowledge VII: Introduction to Public Health and Home Health Nursing

In this course, students examine concepts related to common alterations in health and the essential nursing care of clients, families, groups, and populations within community settings. Students explore assessment, reflective practice, nursing skills, and relational practice within the context of public health and community care for clients, groups, and the inter-professional team. Students apply principles of chronic disease management, older adult care, and palliative care within diverse populations. Students have the opportunity to further explore public health from a socio-ecological perspective and continue to develop their understanding of population and community health by exploring capacity building from a social justice perspective. They learn the importance of promoting and protecting the health of all. A key feature of this course is community assessment and promoting the health of marginalized communities. This course is delivered in a mixed-mode format. Corequisite(s): NURS 3161, 3165, 3364, and 4100.

Registration in this course is restricted to students admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum "C+" grade in all of the following: NURS 3209, 3261, 3262, and PHIL 1105; and an "S" grade in NURS 3264 and 3265.
